A Level Theatre Studies at The Windsor Boys' School

Course description

Edexcel’s Drama and Theatre Studies specification is designed to provide a balance across a range of learning activities. This specification combines the activities of exploring plays, creating theatre, the performing of plays, the analysis of theatre and the critical evaluation of all of these elements. Students completing the course successfully will have a thorough understanding of drama and theatre, highly toned analytical and creative skills and an ability to communicate effectively with others.

At A.S. Level

Unit 6DRO1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre (Coursework based on a study of two set texts)

Unit 6DRO2: Theatre Text in Performance (Practical performance of a play and monologue/duologue)

At A2 Level

Unit 6DRO3: Exploration of Dramatic Performance (Practical creation and performance of a devised piece of theatre)

Unit 6DRO4: Theatre Text in Context (Exam: study of a Greek set text and a play’s performance history)

Entry requirements

As Theatre Studies remains an academically rigorous and demanding subject, the department asks that student achieve at least a B grade at GCSE Drama. If GCSE Drama was not taken we ask that student achieve at least a B grade in English Language at GCSE level.
