Public Services BTEC Level 2 at Stoke on Trent College

Course description

A demanding Level 2 course designed for students interested in applying to join any uniformed service. As with the Level 1 course, subjects are designed to provide and develop essential skills, fitness levels and knowledge for public service employment. Visits, outdoor pursuits and attending events are compulsory parts of the course for which you will have to make a financial contribution.

Course content

A demanding Level 2 course designed for students interested in applying to join any uniformed service. As with the Level 1 course, subjects are designed to provide and develop essential skills, fitness levels and knowledge for public service employment. Visits, outdoor pursuits and attending events are compulsory parts of the course for which you will have to make a financial contribution. This course can also provide access to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade D or above including English. BTEC Introductory Certificate or Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 1, or another relevant Level 1 or Foundation qualification including Level 1 Functional Skills English. You will have a pre induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

Assessment

The course is assessed through a varied range of assessment methods. These will include; written assignments, group and individual presentations, role play, practical observation, report writing, poster presentations and oral questioning. The assessments take place throughout the course so you will not have to face any final exams at the end to pass the course. You will be able to monitor your assessments and your progress to success at any stage in the course.

Future opportunities

You could progress to any related Level 3 qualification. This course can also provide access to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Public Services. The First Diploma is a vocational qualification which is recognised by many employers in the Public Service Industry and is therefore likely to result in enhanced employment prospects.

Further information

The BTEC Level 2 Diploma is a vocational qualification which is recognised by employers for the skills it provides in a specific subject area and is accepted by colleges as equivalent to four GCSEs. Students will also be expected to contribute towards the cost of trips and visits Ð at the moment this is set at £50. In addition, students may need to purchase appropriate equipment for these as well as a course T-shirt.
