Course description

If you enjoy working with people, you will find a career in the Public Services very satisfying. This course will give you a realistic introduction to work in any of the Uniformed Public Services including: Fire, Police, Ambulance, Prison, Customs & Excise and the Armed Services (British Army, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines).

The course is stimulating and varied, as it combines clasroom-based study with exciting practical and outdoor activities.

Day/ Residential visits are an integral part of the course.

Course content

Youwill study Mandatory and Optional Units including: Searching for a Job, Public Services Careers, Well-being and Fitness for Public Service, Practical Teamwork and Introduction to Expedition Skills.

There will be opportunities for you to improve your Mathematics and English skills and to use appropriate computer software. Outdoor activities are essential elements of the course as are Skills for Life/ Functional Skills IT

Entry requirements

You may not need formal qualifications or prior knowledge /experience but must provide a satisfactory reference

You should have an appropriate level of physical fitness and and enthusiasm for exercise.

You will be invited to participate in a two day assessment that includes Mathematics and English tests, physical assessment and self-discipline.

Mature students may be accepted provided they have the capability to complete and benefit from the course.
