Exam board: BTEC Team Leader: Mr G. Earl, Art& Why take it? Pathway? BTEC Art and design allows students to explore art and design textiles fashion in one course. It is an excellent course if you wish to go on to college and study within the area of fashion /textiles. Assessment % breakdown (controlled assessment and external exam) The grade is pass, merit, distintion. All units are assessed and graded by teachers. The examination board sets work for externally assessed units. Tiers on entry unteired Description of course A BTEC First Certifi cate (level 2) is a nationally recognised vocational qualifi cation which offers an insight into the specifi c vocational areas and is equivalent to two GCSE’s grades A* - C. Students will work to relevant design briefs and they will follow the design process to eventually create a fashion product which has responded to the original brief. The process will involve students researching and generating ideas and then developing these ideas using specifi c skills such as pattern drafting and construction techniques. Year 10 Core units – Unit 1 - 2D and 3D Visual Communication – (60 hours) Unit 2 – Contextual refrence in art and design – (60 hours) Year 11 Specialist Units – Unit 3 – Working with Art & Design briefs – (60 hours) Unit 4 – Working with 3D design crafts – (60 hours) Events and trips Possible trips to art galleries in central London, London college of fashion
