What is the Level 2 BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care?

A BTEC First Diploma is a practical, work-related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

A BTEC First Diploma is a nationally recognised vocational qualification and is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A*-C.

Assessment

How will I be assessed?

The course is assessed purely through coursework. There is no exam. There are 6 units of work to complete in 2 years and for each unit you will submit a piece of coursework. A grading scale of Pass, Merit and Distinction is applied to all units.

Employment opportunities

Following completion of the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care, successful candidates would be able to enter initial employment, at a junior level, in occupational therapy or social work.

Further vocational and academic qualifications

The achievement of the BTEC First Diploma has the equivalence of 4 GCSEs graded A*-C. If you achieve an overall Pass grade or better in the BTEC First Diploma in Health and Social Care, it is possible for you to progress to a higher level qualification such as the Level 3 GCE in Health and Social Care, or to do additional studies at Level 2, such as an NVQ.
