Plumbing Level 1 Diploma at West Herts College

Course description

At some point we all need the services of a plumber. Take your first steps towards a career in a constantly evolving industry with a huge demand for qualified engineers. This course will help you to develop both your theory and practical skills.

Course content

This course covers the principles and practical aspects of domestic plumbing. It combines the practical skills of pipe bending and joining with knowledge of basic plumbing systems layout and installation.

Subjects covered include:

  • All domestic aspects of plumbing, heating and sanitation

  • Hot and cold water systems

  • Plumbing sciences

  • Environmental awareness

General skills range from positive working relationships to health and safety. Understanding energy efficiency at home and the workplace also features.

You’ll take part in GAP work experience and develop your English and maths skills in a practical plumbing setting. These skills will help you find work and do well.

Entry requirements

2 GCSEs (E–G) including maths and science, Entry Level 3 qualification, colour blindness test.

You must also attend a course introduction meeting.

Future opportunities

Successful students progress to City and Guilds courses at Level 2 in Plumbing.
