Performing Arts (Musical Theatre) BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma at Hull College Group

Course description

The Musical Theatre course gives students a chance to work on all three disciplines of Musical Theatre. Over the two years students will perform in several shows covering a wide expanse of writers era’s and styles.

The first year introduces the students to the structure and history of Musical Theatre. Students perform in the theatre on a regular basis and support the second years in the end of year production.

The second year allows the student to take on roles such as Director, Musical Director and Choreographer and experience devising and contemporising Musical Theatre using Multimedia technologies.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grades C and above, including Maths and English or Level 2 Diploma in related pathway or Next Generation BTEC Level 2

Future opportunities

In recent years students that have studied on the BTEC Extended Diploma in Musical Theatre have often successfully auditioned for stage schools and university studying degrees and diplomas in performance related subjects.

All students will partake in all of the elements of the Study Programmewhich include:

  • Individual learner reviews
  • Work experience
  • Directed Personal Study

Additional vocational work will be set for students to work on in studio’s as Directed Personal study, outside of the above timetabled sessions. Hours per week for this Study programme are between 16hrs and 30hrs.

Each student has an Individual Study programme package dependant on previous qualification achievements. 

Dependant on previous qualifications, Maths and English are mandatory requirements for all students who have not achieved Grade C or above in GCSE. Additional learning goals will be studied dependant on individual students previous English and Maths achievements.
