Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) in Agriculture at Newton Rigg College

Course description

Work-based learning and assessment at your place of work with some college based study. Learners must be in a paid work placement to commence an apprenticeship programme. The work-based route involves practising and demonstrating a range of practical and theory skills and includes completing a Work-Based Diploma at Level 2 or 3 plus Functional Skills at an appropriate level.

Learners would usually enter at the Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2) stage before progressing to the Advanced Apprenticeship (Level 3). Those employed in the industry and have an increased level of responsibility may also be considered for the Advanced Apprenticeship or Higher Apprenticeship.

• Livestock and accommodation • Welfare of animals • Monitoring and treatment of livestock • Machinery operations • Bio-security • Selection of livestock • Shearing of livestock • English and maths

No Formal entry qualifications. You need an appropriate work placement or employment. We may be able to help you to find a suitable position.

Future opportunities

Further study:

A Level 3 course such as an Advanced

Apprenticeship or full time course such as the Extended

Diploma in Agriculture.

Careers:

Many learners are offered permanent employment at

their placement as an agricultural worker whilst others go into

similar work with other businesses.
