Exploring socialisation, culture and identify:  G671

Considers how cultures are formed and how social roles and identities are learnt.  It also explores the research process, including the use of quantitative methods.

Power and Control:  G537

Crime and Deviance is the topic for this module.  As well as the recurrent themes of power and control.  It considers, definitions, trends, explanations and solutions for the problem of crime and deviance.

Topics in socialisation, culture and identity:  G672

Sociology of Youth is the topic for this module.  It considers the social construction of youth, the role of youth culture in society, the relationship between youth and subculture and the experience of young people in education.

Exploring social inequality and difference:  G674

This synoptic unit draws together key sociological skills and topics.  It considers social inequality and difference, by looking at gender, class, ethnicity and age.  It also explores, sociological research and considers both practical and theoretical issues.

 

Entry requirements

 

No prior knowledge of Sociology is required.  However five passes at GCSE A – C are needed.  One of these passes must be in English and it is crucial that the student enjoys and is able to read and analyse vast amounts of text.

 

Sociology students must hold an interest in people and how they behave.  Students must be determined to achieve their personal best by listening and acting upon advice.
