German AS A2 at Kettering Buccleuch Academy

Course description

The syllabus we follow (AQA) builds on the skills students have acquired at GCSE, putting a greater emphasis on the foreign language itself as the medium of learning and as a communication tool. The course encourages students to develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning and to develop an awareness and understanding of the contemporary society, cultural background and heritage of countries or communities where the language is spoken.

Course content

The four familiar areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing provide the framework of assessment. The course covers a wide range of topic areas. At AS level, aspects of media, popular culture, healthy living and lifestyles, family and relationships are all covered. A2 topics include the environment, multicultural society, contemporary social issues and a cultural topic of the candidate's choice.
