Music and Performing Arts RSW Diploma Level 1 at Boston College

Course description

This course combines a basic introduction to music and performing arts with work experience. You will study many areas of music and performing Arts: introduction to performance arts, exploring music performance skills, taking part in performance, plan and participate in an event, welcoming visitors, working as a part of a group, job opportunities, career progression, preparing for work and self-assessment. 

This course will help you to understand aspects of the performance arts and music sector and the skills required to work successfully in the industry.  

As a RSW performing arts and music student you will spend part of your time at College studying in the Music Recording Rooms and Performing Arts studios.

Course content

You will study the Level 1 BTEC Diploma in Vocational Studies and may get an opportunity to visit local and regional businesses to observe and gain experience of the music and performing arts industry. 

Guest speakers who work in music and performing arts may also come in and talk to you about the possible jobs and careers you could progress to. 

You will be encouraged to develop your employability skills including time management, communication skills, research skills and teamwork. As a part of the course you will gain a valuable work experience which will be arranged by the College.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry qualifications for this course.

Assessment

This course is a combination of both practical and theory. You will learn and be assessed by completing either practical or scenario based activities and by writing assignments. 

These assignment activities will develop your practical skills from a variety of performing arts and music areas. 

Assessments could include: functional skills exams, production of a portfolio (written, videoed, audio recorded), case studies, and role play.

Financial information

You may require a DBS, equipment and outfits.

Future opportunities

The course will give you the equivalent of 4 GCSEs at D-G grade. 

This would give you the opportunity to progress to other courses within the college at level 1 or 2, an apprenticeship or employment.
