Music Technology and Live Sound Level 3 Extended Diploma at Stoke on Trent College

Course description

This exciting course provides an opportunity for students to further their skills in the challenging yet enjoyable key elements of music technology, sound creation and production. Through practical projects you will learn and develop skills in live sound production, music technology, composing and arranging songs, and using recording techniques, CD or podcasts to promote your own work on-line. This course maximizes your own potential by integrating marketing and promotion with the creative and technical elements.

Course content

This exciting vocational course provides an opportunity for students to further their skills in the challenging, yet enjoyable key elements of music technology, sound creation and production.Through practical projects you will learn and develop skills in music technology, composing and arranging songs, and using recording techniques, CD or podcasts to promote your own work on-line. This course maximizes your own potential by integrating marketing and promotion with the creative and technical elements. There is a wide range of opportunities to showcase your own work, in-house and within the local community, which prepares you for employment, or further study, in the music technology industry.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grade A*-C, BTEC First Diploma, appropriate NVQ Level 2 or Intermediate qualification. You will have a pre-induction interview/assessment to make sure this is the right level for you.

Assessment

Assessment is carried out through centre devised and marked assignments which will use our virtual learning environment (Moodle). This is also where you will receive all your feedback and grades.

Future opportunities

You will have the required ability to apply for Higher Education courses in related areas, or to enter employment.

Further information

You must share with us your enthusiasm and high level of interest for music. Functional Skills will form an important part of your course; they are skills that we use and need within our study, work and everyday life. They fit into three categories: English, Maths and Information Technology. We have a wide range of high quality specialised facilities here including; a music performance venue, lighting and sound equipment, a newly equipped digital recording studio, and band rehearsal rooms which you will experience during your study. These in turn will allow you to prepare fully for progression of study in music technology, or employment, in the industry. This course is nationally recognised and is the equivalent of 2.5 A-Levels graded A-C on completion. At Stoke-on-Trent College we have some of the most comprehensive and up-to-date facilities in the Country: the Learning Resources Centres are designed to help and support you by offering information technology facilities, workshops and libraries, our Learning Support is available to enhance your learning by supporting weaker elements and learning difficulties.
