Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Level 1 Diploma at Newbury College

Course description

Newbury college has a fully equipped motor vehicle workshop with a number of service bays and diagnostic equipment required to complete the course. Students will have a considerable use of the workshop to gain valuable practical experience and knowledge. Part time work in the motor trade would be an advantage but not essential.

This course is aimed at prospective motor vehicle technicians and will introduce you to the requirements of vehicle servicing and repair. The course covers Health and Safety and construction materials used in the manufacture of vehicles. It will also cover the removal and replacement of Chassis system components, for example Braking systems, Suspension systems and steering components. You would also learn how to service vehicles, including oil changes and safety inspections.

Entry requirements

Minimum grade D for Maths, English and Science or successful completion of the Entry course with approval of the Course Tutor.


Practical assessments entered into a portfolio of evidence and some written assignments along with successful completion of 3 exams will be required to gain the qualification.

Future opportunities

Level 2 Remove and Repair or Apprenticeship.
