Young Apprenticeship in Hospitality at Hounslow Apprenticeship Training

Course description

You will complete a Level 2 NVQ in Multi-skilled Hospitality Services. This course involves practical and written work and work experience with employers. You will spend time in hairdressing workshops developing skills in: • Customer service • Problem solving • Food and drink service • Food preparation, cooking and presentation You will also develop your understanding of working in the hospitality industry, health and safety practices, and the personal skills required to succeed in the industry. Your practical skills will be assessed in the workshop but you will also be assessed through case studies, assignments, written work and projects. Who is this course for? You should have an interest in and/or want to work in the hospitality industry. You should want to work with people, in a team and in an adult environment and enjoy hands –on practical learning and using new skills. Where will I be based? You will be based at the West Thames College Skills Centre in Feltham. You will be there one day a week (Tuesdays in Year 10 and Thursdays in Year 11) and be taught by specialist tutors in workshops. What about work experience? You will have the opportunity to gain up to 50 days work experience with employers. Work placements in hospitality have included opportunities with Marriott Hotel, Greedies and Pizza Hut.

Entry requirements

Students will need the ability to complete a practical level 2 course. Applicants will be asked for: • KS3 teacher assessments in English, Maths, and Science • A Personal Statement • A Tutor Statement This course suits students who: • are well motivated • are interested in the subject/sector • are interested in working with people • are interested in working in a team and adult environment • enjoy hands-on and practical learning activities • enjoy learning and using new skills
