Hairdressing Diploma Level 3 at Weymouth College

Course description

Students studying this course will work as a hairdresser in the College salon, which is open to the public, and also have the opportunity to work in a selected salon in the area for a variety of work experience. Participation in local and regional competitions is highly recommended and trips to the Salon International exhibition will be expected.

Course content

• Monitor procedures to safely control work operations • Promote additional services or products to clients • Provide hairdressing consultation services • Creatively cut hair using a combination of techniques • Colour hair using a variety of techniques • Provide colour correction services • Creatively style and dress hair • Creatively dress long hair • Develop and enhance your creative hairdressing skills • Support client service improvements.

Entry requirements

•Level 3 candidates must have achieved NVQ/VRQ Level 2 Hairdressing or have a minimum of five years’ apprenticeship or stylist experience. • You will be required to have an interview and trade test with a member of the hairdressing team.


You will cover the theoretical and practical work necessary for each unit. This will be assessed through online testing with the awarding body and practical assessment. Assessment is continuous throughout the year and will take place within a realistic working environment.


Future opportunities

Those who study at Level 3 may progress to higher education or seek employment as a salon stylist or industrial consultant.
