ICT GCSE at Northgate High School
The course will cover two main areas:
Practical work: You will use a range of exciting software to choose, use and design information and communication systems to solve problems set by the exam board.
Theory work: You will investigate a range of information and communication systems and their applications as well as developing an understanding of how well they work and the problems with them.
60% of the marks: Coursework – the exam board set a scenario with a number of assignments that can be solved using ICT. The tasks will require the use of a number of software packages in order to complete successfully.
40% of the marks: Written paper – the examination consists of a variety of questions types – short and multiple choice answer questions, extended answer questions and an extended essay question.
Three lessons per week, you will spend most of the time extending your skills with software you are already familiar with as well as learning how to use a number of new ones.
The course provides an excellent basis for the study of ICT or Computing at AS/A Level.
