Course description

The development of drawing skills using a variety of media to interpret a wide range of subjects enables pupils to accumulate a folder of work for submission to the GCSE examination board. Drawing and painting form the backbone of this creative subject, but pupils will have the opportunity to work in such areas as Printmaking, 3D Ceramics and Sculptural Work, as appropriate to their project.Pupils are encouraged to work using their own initiative and may bring work started at home for development and inclusion in their folios. Technical ability in all areas will be steadily developed and enhanced throughout the course. As a continuation of Key Stage 3, skills will be developed in the areas of visual literacy and artistic appreciation. Art is one of the few subjects that allows for the development of creative and expressive ideas whilst complementing written and numerical skills. The value of a creative and technical course such as this will remain with pupils for the rest of their lives, either as a route towards Further Education or as a stepping stone towards a career in one of the many areas of Art and Design.Participating pupils will find the GCSE Art course to be enjoyable, challenging and rewarding.
