Fine Furniture Making Diploma - Level 2 at LAUNCHPAD

Course description

1 or 2 year course offered as part of a full time study programme

Course content

Gloucestershire College is one of just a handful of colleges across the UK to offer a Diploma in Fine Furniture. This City & Guilds Level 2 qualification suits someone who wants to combine their passion for carpentry with their creative eye for design. As part of the course you’ll learn cabinet making and marquetry. Thanks to the links forged by the college, you’ll get the chance to meet experienced fine furniture designers and get the opportunity to showcase your work at the end of each year. Rest assured that the skills learnt at Gloucestershire College will rival the best as the course has been created with the advice of the Gloucestershire Guild of Craftsmen. By the end of the course you will be adept in creating basic furniture, enough to start your own bespoke furniture company or seek employment with a furniture making company. You will be assessed both practically on the production of your furniture pieces and also through written assignments . Students who have taken this course have commented on the fact that it has given them a new focus and brought out talents they never knew they had.

Entry requirements

This course will suit creative people from school leavers to mature students. You should have at least 4 GCSEs grades A-C and be able to use a computer. To ensure the course is for you, the college will hold a taster session as part of your interview for you to come and try out your skills.

Future opportunities

On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the level 3 in fine furniture to further develop your skills and creative ability and go on to produce more complex designs.

Further information

You will need suitable protective clothing and steel toe-capped shoes or boots. You may also be expected to pay for entrance fees to some industry shows, but full details will be given to you at the beginning of the course.
