Vehicle Technology - Level 1 Diploma (Full-Time) at Newcastle College
This qualification provides an introduction into Mechanical and Vehicle Refinishing.
This Programme of Study covers the basic technical needs for today’s motor vehicle repair industry. It provides essential knowledge for service technicians working on light vehicles and (cars and vans) in all types of garages, dealerships and maintenance depots.
The Functional skills involved are those core elements of English, Mathematics that provide an individual with the essential knowledge, skills and understanding that will enable them to operate confidently, effectively and independently in life and at work in the Automotive Industry.
This Programme of Study has been designed to prepare the Candidate for Employment within the Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Industry.
The course consists of basic mechanical and Refinishing principles mapped over units.
This is a Programme of Study which involves students studying both the theory and practical aspects of the following:
- Light Vehicle Construction and Routine Maintenance
- Operating Principles of Light Vehicle Engines, Tyres, Brakes, Steering and Suspension Systems
- Operating Principles and Maintenance of Light Vehicle Transmission Systems and Electrical and Electronic Systems.
- Knowledge of Vehicle preparation and Refinishing.
Students also gain a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace and other skills associated with working in a garage.
While there are no formal entry requirements for this Programme of Study.
Candidates will be expected to complete an initial assessment and Interview to establish their suitability for Entry Level 3 programme.
If English is not your first Language Candidates will need an IELTS score of 5.5 or above.
Observation, portfolio and online tests.
The student’s knowledge is assessed by practical assessments in an automotive workshop environment and by ‘on-line’ multiple-choice testing.
By completing this Entry level Award qualification, candidates could, progress to a Level 1 Diploma in Vehicle Maintenance/Vehicle Refinishing or by outstanding performance be considered for Direct Entry to a Level 2 Maintenance and Repair/Vehicle Refinishing Qualification.
