Hospitality and Event Management - Level 3 90 Credit Diploma at Blackpool and The Fylde College

Course description

The hospitality sector spans a range of 20+ industries including accommodation services, holiday parks, conference venues, events management, restaurants, transport (such as airlines and cruise ships) and visitor attractions. Together, the sector contributes over £63 billion each year and employs approximately 2.9 million people in more than 419,000 establishments. The majority of the organisations are private sector.The hospitality and tourism sector employs 7% of the working population (1 in every 14 jobs).

The hospitality sector is a people industry and it is the employees that will ensure the quality of the product and service. This is a course designed for those who want to develop skills and knowledge with a view to working in this large and very diverse industry. This is a practical course that will prepare you for employment within one of the many hospitality sectors or allow you to study in Higher Education.

You will have the option as part of your Programme of Study to study either GCSE English or mathematics or Functional Skills (based on entry grades) plus you will take part in work experience placements and study recognised additional qualification such as Food Hygiene and Welcome Host.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above including Maths and English Language.


Assessment methods are varied and will be through the evidence produced by the student in the form of projects, presentations, multiple choice in-class tests, posters displays, practical exercises, role plays and research tasks.

Future opportunities

Into employment in one of the many sectors highlighted above such as Event Management, Hotel Management, Conferences and Banqueting, holiday parks and transport services. Many students progress onto the higher education and study either Event Management or Hospitality Management at Blackpool and the Fylde College University Centre in association with Salford University.
