Health and Social Care Level 2 Diploma at Newton Abbot College
This qualification is about developing the skills, knowledge and understanding that will allow them to progress onto Level 3 courses, apprenticeships and employment in the care industry. Students will learn by applying their skills, knowledge and understanding to tasks or activities that are relevant to what happens in health, social care and childcare workplaces.
Students will also learn how to be proactive in promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting individuals within the sector. The course is a combination of coursework and examinations.
The one year course will cover the following units:
- Principles of Working in Health, Social Care and Child Care;
- Health and Safety in Practice;
- Working in a Person Centred Way;
- Working in Adult Health and Social Care Environments;
- Working with Individuals in Adult Health and Social Care Environments;
- Working in Childcare Environments;
- Working with Individuals in Childcare Environments.
Six units will be coursework based, representing 75% of the total qualification. Coursework will take the form of a variety of different types of evidence from report writing, power point presentations, information leaflets etc.
There are two externally assessed units, representing 25% of the total qualification. Examinations will be taken in January or June of each year.
Students are required to have a Grade 4 or above in English and Mathematics at GCSE level. However, if these grades are not achieved, course entry will be discussed on an individual basis.
After successful completion of the Level 2 course, students can progress on to the Level 3 Diploma.
Level 2 qualifications would lend themselves to adult or children's care work, including support workers, care assistants, play and nursery assistants.
