Sport Triple (Development, Coaching & Fitness) Extended Diploma at Blackfen School for Girls

Course description

Offering a chance to study a triple option Sport BTEC.  This 100% coursework qualification prepares those interested in sport for higher education and a job in sport. Having a vocational context means that you will study the wide range of sporting roles within the community and enable students to develop the necessary writing, researching and practical skills to succeed in the world of work - be that in sport, as a manager, working in an office or taking on a more practical employment.  You will undertake work based learning in conjunction with Hurstmere, where students are encouraged to get hands on experience at working with younger people, and out in the community. The structure of the course also offers an overview of the many roles of the sport specialist.


Course content

Topics includes: Anatomy and Physiology, Assessing Risk in Sport, Fitness Training and Programming, Sports Coaching , Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise, Contemporary Issues, Leadership in Sport, Sport Injuries, Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport and , Work Experience. Sports Development, Practical Team Sports, Practical Individual Sports, Psychology for Sports Performance, Analysis of Sport Performance,Talent Identification and Development in Sport, Organising Sports Events.


Entry requirements

Level 2 BTEC Sport  Merit or GCSE PE grade C or above.


Includes coursework,  using film, presentations, written articles, reports, leaflets, posters, booklets, radio interviews and essays.


Future opportunities

Students studying Level 3 Sport BTEC courses have gone on to university to study degrees in Sport Development, Sports Journalism, Physiotherapy, Physical Education.Job opportunities include Physiotherapist (if studied in conjunction with sciences), Sports Therapist, Elite Sports Officer, Community Sports Coach, Sport Development Officer, PE Teacher, Specialist Coach (e.g. strength & conditioning), Nutritionist, Sports Scientist, Outdoor Adventure Leader, Sports Analyst, Personal Trainer, Fitness Instructor
