Art & Design Level 2 BTEC Diploma at Suffolk One

Course description

The BTEC Diploma in Art & Design is a practical, work-related course. Students learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

Course content

Under the support and guidance of a team of specialist Art & Design lecturing staff, students will study and work in fully equipped studios. An extended project enables students to learn more about a specialist area including Graphic Design, Fine Art or Textiles.

The course is assessed by a range of methods: projects, case studies and coursework. Students undertake a number of visits throughout the course to art galleries and museums and other places of interest. Students will also take part in a group project which is a vital part of the course. The central aims of the course are to develop creative ability; drawing and designing skills; and improve levels of communication and presentational skills.

Entry requirements

At least two GCSEs at grade D or above; including GCSE English Language and Art; or having completed successfully a Foundation Learning course in a related area and achieved Level 1 in English. You will also need to commit to an additional 10 hours of study per week. In exceptional cases, students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their artistic flair by submitting a portfolio.

Throughout the year, students will complete a range of practical projects and assignments which will be assessed via portfolios of work. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course following the assessment of a final major project.

Future opportunities

A Level 2 BTEC Diploma prepares students for employment and provides a good grounding to go on to a more advanced course such as the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design at Suffolk One.
