Biology at Fakenham Academy (College)
The syllabus puts great emphasis on the practical applications of Biology and encourages an understanding of the ethical, economic and environmental implications. The course helps you to develop a scientific approach to problem solving. Mathematical skills and statistics are part of the course which requires both commitment and enthusiasm. You are expected to spend time reading around the subject outside the classroom.
There are 3 modules in each part of the A level course. As Biology consists of biology and disease; the variety of living organisms; investigative and practical skills. At A2 Biology consists of populations and environment; control in cells and in organisms; investigative and practical skills.
You need to have a knowledge of Biology either as a single GCSE subject or as part of a GCSE Science course. Ideally you should have gained at least a C grade in GCSE Maths and B in Biology or a grade B in both Core and Additional Science.
