Dance A Level at The Holy Trinity Church of England Secondary School

Course description

In this course you can expect to develop, demonstrate and articulate practical and theoretical knowledge. You will cover a range of different topics including technical and performance skills, the process and art of choreography, and the interrelationship between the creation, presentation and viewing/appreciation of dance works. You can also expect to develop your understanding of the development of dance placed within an artistic and cultural context, professional dance works and the significance of these works. 

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade C in Dance 


Component One: Practical Exam (50%), 80 marks

  • Solo performance linked nto a specified practitioner within an are of study
  • Performance in a quartet
  • Group choreography

Component Two: Theory Written Exam (50%), 100 marks

  • Two sections:
  • Section A: short answer questions (25 marks) and one essay question (25 marks) on the compulsory set work/area of study.
  • Section B: two essay questions on the second set work/area of study (25 marks for each essay).
