Health & Social Care BTEC First Certificate (Level 2) at Havering Sixth Form College
This course gives students an insight into the world of Health and Social Care, provides knowledge, understanding and skills required for future employment and enables students to investigate a range of different areas within the Health and Social Care industry through practical activities and research.
This qualification is taught over 240 guided learning hours (GLH). It has core, mandatory and optional specialist units. This is one year course where learners must complete the two core units, the two additional mandatory units, and a choice of optional specialist units to reach a total of 240 GLH.
This BTEC First Certificate has units that your centre assesses (internal) and units that Edexcel sets and marks (external).
You can expect to:
- to gain a broad understanding and knowledge of, and skills in, the health and social care sector,
- develop an understanding of the care values and different life stages that individuals go through
- enhance communication skills and explore a range of biological and lifestyle factors
- progress to a more specialised level 3 vocational or academic health and social care course or an apprenticeship or, more broadly, progression to qualifications in other sectors, such as early years
There is no requirement to have previously studied GCSE Health and Social Care. A minimum of four GCSEs at grades D and is required. A keen interest in Health and Social Care.
Exam Board - Edexcel
75% Internally assessed, 25% Externally assessed.
Potential progression onto level 3 vocational qualifications, such as BTEC Nationals, specifically the Edexcel BTEC Level 3 in Health and Social Care.
