Health & Social Care BTEC Level 3 at Archway School

Course description

This two year course provides an opportunity to undertake vocationally related learning that is task based. The structure of the course does allow for a certificate if a student only wishes to study this option for one year.

The course provides insight into human development, physiology, nutrition and communication for example. In addition it allows students to explore areas of interest to them from the world of work.

Theoretical research is integrated with insight from real life care practitioners and practical, task based assignments.

There are opportunities to work as part of a team and to research, present, reflect and evaluate, all of which are beneficial for higher education and employment.

Unit 4: Development through Life Stages


Year 2

Unit 2: Equality, Diversity and Rights

Unit 5: Anatomy and Physiology

Unit 21: Nutrition

Entry requirements

GCSE Health & Social Care is not necessary, neither is BTEC Level 2 Health& Social Care


Continuous assessment of coursework broken down into tasks, and linked to Pass, Merit and Distinction grading criteria. These grades are linked to points which provide the basis for overall grading of the qualification.

Coursework evidence includes role play, Powerpoint presentation, reports and posters.

Financial information

The 16-19 Bursary Fund is made available from the Government – to provide assistance to students whose access to, or completion of, education is inhibited by financial constraints or barriers. Further information regarding eligibility and application forms are available from the sixth form.

Higher Education ( NVQ level 4)

Provides UCAS points towards university entrance Employment in health, social care or early years services
