Sport at The Regis School

Course description

This course is perfect for students looking to continue their studies in sport. The course has two options: either the BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent of 3 A Levels) or the BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport (equivalent of 1 A Level)

Course content

BTEC Extended National Diploma in Sport:

15 units over a 2 year period. These include Practical Team Sports, Leadership, Coaching, Officiating, Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness Training and Sports Psychology.

BTEC Extended Certificate in Sport:

This course is covered in 4 units over a 2 year period, and these are taken from the list above.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs (including English) at C or above

Assessment

The majority of the units in the course are assessed through various assignments. These are produced in many forms, some of which are written, others are presented and others are practically based. Each unit comes with an opportunity to gain a pass, merit or distinction and will go towards the overall grade at the end of the course. There are also 3 examinable units in the Extended Diploma and 2 in the Extended Certificate.

Future opportunities

There are many career paths that are available after studying this course, including progression onto higher education at university to include: teaching, sports science, sports studies, sports therapy, sports development, as well as a range of careers in both coaching and leadership.
