Description: At St James's, R.E. is a part of the core programme and all pupils follow courses which examine: • a number of moral issues • the Christian attitude to the individual and the community • an in-depth study on the person of Jesus In the GCSE course there are two areas of study. Each is assessed at the end of the course by a written examination. • One paper focuses on Ethics and the moral issues in Christianity, concentrating on personal relationships, prejudice and discrimination, war and peace, poverty, decisions on life and living; in fact all areas of life which are of concern to thinking people. • The other paper is a study of Mark's Gospel where the emphasis is on the life and teaching of Jesus and how this relates to Christina living today. At the start of Year 9, all pupils began a programme of study leading to either GCSE Religious Studies or a School Certificate which gives details of modules of work which have been completed. Assessment for the non-exam course consists of a number of module tests and assignments which are set throughout the course.
