Design and Technology (Food Technology) GCSE at Shenley Brook End School
AQA GCSE Food Technology - In this subject pupils learn about the manufacturing processes relevant to designing food products. In year 10 pupils will learn to investigate food products and build upon the skills that they gained at Key Stage 3. At the end of year 10 pupils in all DT courses commence a major project which consists of a design folio and practical outcome. This project continues together with theory work during year 11. The assessment of this work can count for up to 60% of the final GCSE grade. In addition to this work pupils sit a single examination relating to subject theory that counts for up to 40% of the GCSE grade.
You could take this course to prepare for advanced level courses such as an A/AS Level in Design and Technology or you may need to strengthen your grades by completing a foundation or intermediate vocational qualification. With further training, you could go into a job related to Design and Technology and Electronics such as an Technician, Electrician or Design Engineer. You could also go straight into employment and do further training or part time study with the support of your employer.
