Information Technology Level 3 BTEC National Extended Certificate at Monks Walk School

Course description

The BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology is intended as an Applied General qualification equivalent in size to one A Level. The course carries the same UCAS points and weight as a practically orientated A Level course. Alongside an appropriate choice of other courses, it gives progression to university as well as expertise and skills for IT and for business more broadly.

The objective of this qualification is to give learners the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in IT systems, systems management and social media in business. This will enable students to progress to further study in the IT sector or other sectors.

Course content

Students will study four units:

  • Information Technology Systems
  • Creating Systems to Manage Information
  • Using Social Media in Business
  • Website Development.

Entry requirements

GCSE C or above in English and Maths. APS: 40 or above.


Each year, students complete two coursework units. This will allow them progression to a variety of degrees when combined with other suitable Level 3 qualifications.
