Course content

The course is delivered by teachers who have considerable business experience, including running their own businesses. You will study all the aspects of running a business and the effect of business activities on the population in general. These fall into the following areas:

·         What is Business

·         Managers, leadership and decision making

·         Decision making to improve marketing performance

·         Decision making to improve financial performance

·         Decision making to improve human resource performance

·         Analysing the strategic position of a business

·         Choosing strategic direction

·         Strategic methods

·         Managing strategic change

Additional Activities:

There are visits to a number of businesses in located in Greater Manchester. During these visits you will get a real life insight into the challenges that business owners face.

Entry requirements

To study an A-level programme you will need to achieve 5 GCSEs grade 4 or above, including English and Maths. There are no additional requirements for this subject.

Length: This is a linear course and will take two years to complete.


This is a linear course so you will take three exams at the end of the second year.

Future opportunities

Many Business Studies students pursue the subject at university but many also find the skills and knowledge they have gained during the course are valued by employers. Quite a few go on to run their own businesses!
