Creative Media Production - Games Development - BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Milton Keynes College
Do you have a genuine interest in how computer games work? Are you creative and do you enjoy working with others to produce dynamic and interesting products? Then this course could be for you. It offers a practical and theoretical approach to thinking about computer games – how they are designed, made and who uses them.
You will study units covering the following:
- Research skills
- Games testing
- Working with games engines
- The creative media sector
- 2D Digital art and design
- Drawing skills
- Production management
- Functional skills*
*Functional skills qualifications are designed to provide the necessary levels of English and maths skills needed to ‘function’ in today’s society and workplace. They are a key component of all College Programmes. You will complete at least 1 Functional Skill at an appropriate level as part of your programme.
A minimum of 6 points including 2 GCSEs at grade D-G or above one of which must be English. Equivalent qualifications in a relevant discipline will be accepted with GCSE English and maths at grade D or above.
A relevant Level 1 Qualification
Mature candidates will be considered on an individual basis.
You will be continually assessed during the course through set project work. Functional skills are assessed by on-line exams and you will be given guidance and support to achieve these.
Initially you will be encouraged to progress to one of the following:
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (Games Development).
- BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design (range of specialisms)
- Any Level 3 IT courses
- An Apprenticeship.
After further study at level 3 you can progress into employment into roles including:
- Concept artist
- Level designer
- 3D Modeller
- Games Tester
