Sociology - AS/A2 Level at The Parker E-act Academy

Course description

Sociology is the study of societies: how they shape people's ideas and social behaviour and how, in turn, people interact with and change the societies in which they live. If you're curious about how society works and changes over time and are interested in carrying out your own research, Sociology may be the subject for you.

Course content

* In year one, you'll look at core themes of culture, socialisation and identity; and you'll study youth

culture, giving you an opportunity to reflect on your own experiences

* In year 2, you'll study Power and Control within education, mass media, crime or protest; and you'll examine Social Inequality, including gender, ethnic, age and class inequalities. You will also carry out your own research project.

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grades A*- C (or equivalent) including English.


Each unit is assessed via formal written exams. In year one this involves use of pre release data and two structured essays. In year two this involves a paper based on two essays and a written paper based on one piece of research on social inequality and difference.

Future opportunities

Employment, Higher Education or further study for a Professional Qualification.
