ICT A Level at Strode College

Course description

Using information communication technology (ICT) is an important part of work and leisure in society and you will study the use of ICT in the digital world, including practical problem solving. The course is for you if you enjoy using information technology and want to develop your skills and understanding, or you are interested in a career in ICT, computing or business management.

Course content

ICT combines well with most subjects and is especially valuable for students studying Business Studies. If you are also thinking of studying A Level Computer Science, you might think about our Level 3 Extended Diploma in IT - this is a dedicated IT course that may be more suitable for you.

You will have the opportunity to participate in educational visits such as visiting the Large Hadron Collider and the International Telecommunication Union in CERN, Geneva, and the Computer Games Museum in Berlin, as well as opportunities for day visits to related organisations.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grades A* - C or equivalent including English Language and Maths.


This course is assessed by written exams and coursework.

Future opportunities

All careers today require some knowledge of ICT especially for those interested in management roles. The course will prepare you to progress to higher education, in a range of subjects, including those focusing on a specific area of ICT such as web design or programming.
In recent years our students have progressed to honours degrees in IT related subjects at the Universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. Students can also progress to our HND in Computing and Systems Development.
