Course description

If you enjoy solving problems with logic, have a high mathematical ability, and have the skill and inclination to explain how substances all around you are made and interact, then you will enjoy Chemistry.

Course content

This A Level course focuses on understanding and application of Chemistry concepts. The course builds on prior knowledge from GCSE Science, Additional Science and Triple Science Chemistry. There is a high level of mathematical content in the course.

A Level Chemistry gives students a good grounding for higher education by developing practical skills in a variety of industrial contexts, as well as problem solving and critical thinking skills. Studying Chemistry can lead to employment in a range of professions, including forensic science, environmental science and pharmacy. It is essential for anyone wishing to study medicine.

Topics are divided in to Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry

AS will still exist, but it will now be a stand-alone qualification that will NOT contribute to the final A level grade, although the content will overlap significantly. For students who take the full A level, their A level grade depends solely on their performance in the A level papers at the end of the course.

Paper 1 - 120 minute exam worth 35%
Paper 2 - 120 minute exam worth 35%
Paper 3 - 120 minute exam worth 30%
