Computing A Level at Chilwell School

Course description

This course will prepare you for any higher education course or employment opportunity where technology plays a pivotal role. The A level course allows you to practically demonstrate and apply your knowledge of the fundamental principles of computing. Throughout the course you will develop problem solving skills, using an algorithmic approach. Equally, you will learn how to apply your knowledge of programming as we tackle a range of problematic computing scenarios. You will also gain detailed understanding of both the hardware and software aspects of Computing.

Entry requirements

Additional entry requirements: Students will need a minimum Grade B GCSE Mathematics or a minimum Grade B GCSE Physics.


AS Assessment

  • Unit 1 – Problem Solving, Programming, Data Representation and Practical Exercise
  • Unit 2 – Compute Components, the Stored Program Concept and the Internet

A2 Assessment

  • Unit 3 – Problem Solving, Programming, Operating Systems, Databases and Networking
  • Unit 4 – The Practical Project
