Business at North Somerset Enterprise and Technology College

Course description


You will develop your knowledge and understanding of the world of business through classroom learning, work experience, mentorships and entrepreneurial activities. An  extended Diploma is worth 3 A Levels and there are 18 units in total.

Course content

The business world is very dynamic and this course will give you the chance to explore a number of areas, which will help you to realise where your future career aspirations lie. This qualification is transferable to every organisation as the qualification is relevant to every industry and sector. The course consists of 18 units and these are delivered across a wide range of specialisms enabling you to develop a broad skill base and maximise your progression opportunities to higher education and employment.

Some of the topics that you will explore include:

  • Introduction to marketing
  • Finance
  • Managing teams
  • Business law
  • Recruitment and selection
  • Introduction to accounting
  • Events management
  • Starting a small business.

You will also develop employability skills and entrepreneurial skills via a range of different enterprise challenges on this programme.

Entry requirements

This is a Level 3 qualification. You will need 5 A*-C GCSEs, including English and Maths. Duration: 2 years.


We will assess your project work, assignments, presentations and group work.

Future opportunities

Students who successfully complete their programme of study could progress onto a business related degree or a business higher apprenticeship. Or you can directly enter into employment in management, marketing, accountancy, business law, HR, administration, event management and self-employment.

This qualification is equivalent to 3 A Levels.
