Biology at Marlwood School
Building on GCSE experience in all of the sciences, the course comprises work in four modules:
• AS modules; Cells, exchange and transport Molecules, biodiversity food & health – taken in June of Year 12.
• A2 modules: Communication, homeostasis and energy Control, genomes and environment.
The modules extend the knowledge base of GCSE Biology to include new content, and a greater understanding of basic scientific principles applied to living organisms. Some development of organic chemistry is involved and students should be capable of dealing with chemical concepts such as oxidation, reduction and ionisation.
Candidates should ideally have at least a grade B in GCSE courses carried out in Years 10 and 11
