Performing Arts - (Acting) BTEC Subsidiary Diploma at The Mandeville School

Course description

This course is geared towards those with a keen interest in acting, performing and directing. You will tailor your course to your own needs and interests through the choices you make regarding the optional units. The course covers all aspects of actor training. You will study a range of acting techniques from Stanislavski and Brecht to improvisation and stand -up, as well as classical and contemporary theatre practices.

This is a practical course that is underpinned with theory and business skills. You will have the opportunity to become fully involved in the process of performance from directing and writing to critical evaluation.

Course content

The course will include the assessment of the following units (all worth 10 Credits each):

Mandatory units:

  • Performing to an Audience
  • Principles of Acting Optional

Units including:

  • Devising Plays
  • Theatre in Education
  • Performing with Masks
  • Auditions for Actors
  • Film and TV Acting
  • Script Writing
  • Drama Improvisation
  • Developing Physical Theatre

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s A*- C and a genuine interest in the Performing Arts. An excellent attendance record is also essential.

Assessment

The course is internally assessed through 100% coursework (both practical and written assignments).
