Course content

The ITQ Level 1 Diploma is ideal if you want to use IT in an office environment or when looking for a job and covers all Microsoft Office applications plus a range of other software.

The Level 1 course is aimed at 16-19 year old learners who have left school with few or no GCSE qualifications and will encourage you to focus on improving your IT skills and knowledge in a range of software applications up to a Level 1 standard.

As part of the course you will also study Functional Skills maths and English to Entry 3 Level (or your own level as appropriate), gain personal and social development skills leading to a Level 1 PSD qualification and will take part in both group tutorials and one-to-one sessions with your tutor.

We have a 100% success rate on this course and excellent feedback from our past students with some going on to become ICT Apprentices and office administrators.

You will be supported by fully qualified teachers who will provide training in the chosen software and check/mark your training work, give you regular feedback, assess each unit, and observe your performance. They will also support you to develop a portfolio of work and out together your CV or personal statement.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements, other than determination and commitment.

Assessment

You will be assessed using a variety of methods including practical assessment, written assessment, observations written assignments and examinations (functional skills only).

Future opportunities

The skills you will learn on this course will enable you to:

  • Pursue a career in an office environment, using ICT within the workplace
  • Find employment as an ICT Apprentice or progress to the ITQ Level 2 Diploma

    • The Paget Road campus, in Compton to the west of Wolverhampton, provides courses in art and design, business and management, computing and IT, education and teaching, engineering, English, health and social care, journalism, maths, media, motor vehicle, music technology, performing arts, photography and science.

      Also on offer at the site are Pathways programmes for people without any formal qualifications, ESOL courses for speakers of other languages, and short courses for job seekers.

      The campus is also home to CitySixth – the college's dedicated sixth form centre offering A Levels in a range of subjects - and a Higher Education Centre which offers HNCs, HNDs and Foundation Degrees, and also boasts an Engineering Learning Zone also equipped with industry-standard equipment, modern motor vehicle workshops, new performing and recording studios, and well equipped science labs.

      The site has a Student Hub, Study Hub, cafeteria and large free student car park and is on major bus routes.
