Vehicle Systems and Body and Paint Maintenance Level 1 at Hartlepool College of Further Education

Course description

This automotive qualification is intended to enable access to the automotive industry. It provides accessibility for those students with low academic qualifications but have an interest in seeking employment within the industry in the future, or perhaps to develop basic vehicle maintenance skills and knowledge. This is a vocational pathway that develops literacy & numeracy alongside practical skills.

  • (Unit 102) Vehicle engine cooling systems
  • (Unit 103) Vehicle fuel & exhaust systems
  • (Unit 104) Vehicle spark ignition systems
  • (Unit 105) Vehicle electrical systems
  • (Unit 106) Vehicle braking systems
  • (Unit 107) Vehicle transmission systems
  • (Unit 108) Vehicle steering & suspension
  • (Unit 109) Vehicle wheels & tyres systems
  • (Unit 112) Vehicle workshop bench skills

Entry requirements

No entry requirements, but require an interview with the course tutor.

Assessment

To complete the qualification you will be required to complete practical vehicle assessments which will also involve the completion of task sheets and observations by your assessor. Theoretical assessments will involve the completion of workbooks and related task sheets.

Future opportunities

When you have successfully completed your programme of study you will hold a qualification that will provide a suitable knowledge base to enable you to progress to our Level 1 programme. It is also important to note that you will have achieved an important first step towards undertaking an apprenticeship qualification or progressing to our higher level qualifications, which includes a motor sport option at Level 2 or 3 in the future.

Further information

To aid your general development and industrial experiences we also aim to include trips out into industrial environments which have included Nissan and other local related employers in previous years. We also aim to offer enrichment activities which have in the past included Go-Karting competitions and Snowboarding events. All equipment including boots and overalls will be provided.
