Art and Design EDEXCEL Extended Diploma Level 3 (Photography) at Cornwall College

Course description

Ideal if:  you enjoy photography and are willing to be challenged and have your creativity encouraged and developed. It is also ideal if you intend to progress to university study and a career in photography.

You'll need: four or more GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and mathematics.

You'll learn: across the core disciplines of creative practice, including: ideas generation, visual communication, contextual studies, experimentation and techniques.

Expect: to explore a range of specialist photography topics such as portraiture, landscape and still-life, documentary, studio lighting and darkroom processing.

You'll love: the variety of photography skills and knowledge you will explore and develop.

You'll go onto: further studies at Foundation Diploma or university.

Course content

You will study across the core disciplines of all creative practice: Ideas Generation, Visual Communication, Contextual Studies and extensive experimentation with Materials and Techniques. Alongside these you will explore a range of specialist subject areas including, portraiture, landscape, still-life, documentary, studio lighting, digital manipulation, darkroom processing / printing and large format camera techniques.  

Entry requirements

You will need to have 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, and will be asked to bring along a portfolio of your work if possible, to an informal interview with one of our photography tutors

Future opportunities

This course offers a strong foundation in the study of photography, and closely related media. In addition, the course offers transferable skills in the form of research, analysis, critical thought, observation and problem-solving. Achieving this qualification will provide direct progression routes to higher education courses in Photography but also other areas such as Fine Art, Fashion, Graphic Communication, Multimedia & Animation and Advertising. It could also provide you with sufficient vocational skills to seek possible employment in businesses such as graphic design studios, publishing houses, advertising agencies, newspapers, PR companies and art galleries. This qualification assists too in the eventual progression to employment and/or self-employment in any of those areas.
