Performing Arts Level 2 at Kendal College

Course description

This course will introduce you to a wide range of theatre acting, dance and performance, and will provide opportunities for you to study at a higher level. You should have an active interest in the performing arts and be willing to work creatively as a member of a team. The programme draws together acting, dance and vocal skills through theatre-based projects and performances. A residential session, theatre visits and workshops are part of your course. You will be required to audition for this course.

This course aims to develop your skills in the performing arts for possible progression on to the Level 3 Diplomas in Performing Arts, Technical Theatre or Music.

All of our learners will be given support with their English and Maths skills where relevant to their main programme. Those students who have not yet achieved a ā€˜Cā€™ grade at GCSE in these subjects will continue to work towards these important qualifications at a level suited to them.

This course will be part of a wider study programme, which may also include english & maths, work placement and additional studies.

Course content

Acting skills and techniques to perform contemporary and classical theatre through scripted plays. Improvisation techniques, development of physical and vocal skills for actors.

Dance styles and techniques, including contemporary and jazz for performance, working on choreographic skills and professional repertoire. Musical theatre through the ages and performance skills. Developing academic writing and careers in the performing arts and production arts.

Entry requirements

Four GCSEs at grade A*-D, including English or Maths; or a Level 1 Diploma at Merit or Distinction. You will also be required to audition for this programme

Assessment

Coursework, E-assessment, Portfolio of Evidence, Practical Assessment

Future opportunities

Dancer Actor Singer. Level 3 Courses in a related subject. Students usually progress on to Level 3 Diplomas in Performing Arts, Technical Theatre or Music.

Extended Diplomas are equivalent to up to three A levels at Grade A (420 Ucas points.)

    • The majority of our courses are based at our main site. The College completed a £12.9 million new build project in 2008, which includes reception, conference and seminar suites, hairdressing salons and 250-seat cafe with external balcony. The site also features the stunning Construction and Heritage Centre, which features cutting edge facilities for carpentry and joinery, brickwork, plumbing and electrical installation.

      In October 2010 the College opened the South Lakeland Design Engineering Centre, which has brought engineering back to Kendal College. The Centre, designed in conjunction with local engineering firms including Gilbert Gilkes & Gordon Limited, features state of the art computer numerical control (CNC) machinery, including a 3D printer, which prints out solid models directly from CAD Drawings. The college is currently building a new, purpose-built engineering centre which will open in September 2014 and provide new courses in medical science, engineering and sustainable energy.
