Land Based Studies (Equine) Level 1 Diploma at Oaklands College

Course description

The course consists of the following modules: Safe and effective working practices, Develop performance in Land Based industries, Industrial experience in Horse-based industries, Assist with the handling and restraint of horses, Assist with the exercise of horses, Assist with the preparation for exercise and aftercare of the horse, Maintain health of the horse. The course offers a range of subject areas giving you an introduction to the skills needed when working in the equine industry, to include health and safety, developing your personal, vocational and employability skills, working individually and as part of a team. The Level 1 Diploma is awarded by City & Guilds and taught at Oaklands College. Application for the full-time course should be through Oaklands admissions team. 

Entry requirements

Three GCSEs at Grade E or above. You will also need to have experience caring for horses in summer and winter months.

This course is suitable if you have some experience with horses and wish too learn more about horse care.

Financial information

16-18 years old, no tuition fees apply to Full Time courses and fees subject to confirmation. Additional costs applicable to BHS courses.

Future opportunities

Success at Level 1 with positive references from tutors will enable you to progress on to the NPTC Level 2 Diploma in Horse Care.
