Psychology A Level at St Francis Xavier 6th Form College (SFX College)
Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour and experience. The course aims to extend our everyday observations of human behaviour by attempting to validate what is ‘known’ scientifically. Students will look at how psychologists research human behaviour.
In addition to our Programme Entry Requirements, applicants must also meet specific Course Entry Requirements:
Grade B in English Language, Grade B in Maths and Grade B in Science (Core, Additional or Applied) & GCSE score of at least 5.5 is advisable
Students with either a Grade C in Maths or a Grade C in Science may be considered subject to availability
The A level course is 100% examination based through three papers each lasting two hours. Each paper is worth 33.3% of the A level. All papers include multiple choice, short answer and extended writing questions.
This subject is useful if you want to go on to study Psychology or Social Sciences at degree level. You can study either a BSc or a BA in Psychology, so individual university requirements need to be checked.
In order to continue to postgraduate level in Psychology, you need to ensure that the degree programme you choose is accredited by the British Psychological Society.
