Course description

Qualification summary

This is the hospitality industry‚Äôs professional qualification for staff who prepare and service bedrooms or who clean, service and prepare public rooms within their own
The NVQ units are suitable for all types of outlets, ranging from hotels, hostels, hospitals, care homes, other residential institutions, boarding schools, halls of residence, guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments.
This qualification is suitable for those already in employment as well as those wishing to enter the hospitality industry.
If you are promoted within your job role you should consider either the Team Leading qualification at level two or the Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Diploma at level three.

Course content

This Intermediate Apprenticeship will last 12 months and is made up of the following components:

  • BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Hospitality & Catering Principles (Housekeeping) (Technical Certificate)
  • NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Housekeeping (Vocational Qualification)
  • Functional Skills Maths (Level 1)
  • Functional Skills English (Level 1)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills

Entry requirements

This is down to the eligibility of the candidate and also an Initial assessment.

The employer will also need to demonstrate suitability of training programme by completing a skills scan.


Continuous Assessment in the workplace

Assessment reviews take place every 4-6 weeks

Financial information

An employer contribution is applicable and is dependent on the size of the organisation and the volume of participants on the training programmes.

Future opportunities

You could find employment in hotels, guest houses, holiday centres, care homes, student hostels, and residential homes. You could also find work through one of the agencies which hotels use to recruit staff.

The opportunities for progression would depend on the size of the hotel. In larger organisations you are more likely to have the chance to progress to a supervisory or management job, as floor housekeeper, deputy head housekeeper or head housekeeper.
