Course description

Mathematical argument, language and proof; mathematical problem solving; mathematical modelling; proof; algebra and functions; coordinate geometry in the (x,y) plane; sequences and series; trigonometry; exponentials and logarithms; differentiation; integration; vectors; statistical sampling; data presentation and interpretation; probability; statistical distributions; statistical hypothesis testing; kinematics; forces and Newton’s laws; and moments.

Entry requirements

To study A-Level mathematics you must have achieved at least a grade 6 at GCSE and a good understanding of the algebra topics.

Future opportunities

A-level mathematics is a good choice for students considering higher education in any science or Maths-based course, ranging from biochemical sciences, natural sciences, engineering, medical science and psychology to philosophy, economics, accountancy, management and actuarial science.

Further information

You will be required to purchase a graphics calculator (£60- £80 estimate) and a course textbook costing about £20; a revision guide (£8 estimate) might support you further. These can be purchased through the school to keep costs down and you may be able to use a bursary.
