Course description

The Level 1 Diploma in Art and Design is designed for those with a proven interest in art, design and media and a desire to explore their creative potential.

You will explore a wide range of art and design activities that may include developing practical skills in painting and drawing, ceramics, printmaking and 3D design.

This course is an introduction to art and design that could lead to a variety of programmes at a higher-level. This may include an art and design or creative media Level 2 diploma.

Entry requirements

You must have:

  • Studied a GCSE-level programme
  • An art portfolio which showcases a range of creativity.

You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course. You may also need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.

Mature students (those aged 21 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible, subject to an interview. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.
