Construction BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Teignmouth Community School
The Construction course will lead to the extended certificate or the diploma depending on the individual student. The course will give the students a broad overview of the construction industry and many of the trades involved. There is potential for the qualification to prepare learners for employment in the appropriate vocational sector and it is also suitable for those who have decided that they wish to enter a particular area of work. Alongside the course the students will undertake one day a week work experience with a local firm. This course is particularly suited to those students who studied Construction at KS4.
The course is broken down into Units, four of these are mandatory; if you have already completed the Certificate then these will have been covered, The Diploma will require a further three mandatory Units but no external assessment. The remainder of the units are made up of optional units including:
Exploring Surveying, Carpentry and Joinery Operations, Plumbing Operations, Brickwork and Block work Operations and Painting and Paper hanging Operations.
This qualification extends and develops the specialist work related focus from the BTEC Level 2 Certificate. However, those students who are interested in employment in the construction industry, show interest and are well motivated will be considered. Good levels of literacy and numeracy are essential.
The course provides an insight into the various career paths available within the industry, allowing the students to experience many different related activities. This course also provides access to higher level courses within Further and Higher Education, leading to the completion of an NVQ, an apprenticeship or some other related qualification. The qualification is well regarded within the industry.
